SAVANNAH, WATERLOO

Savannah first got in touch with SJB after coming across the project online. She was interested in the move towards documenting people and everyday city life, and after talking for a while we started discussing what she might photograph around London.

Rather than organising a traditional shoot, the idea was to keep things close to what she would already be doing. Savannah spends a lot of her time out with friends, going to new places and listening to music. She also has an interest in skating and has been into graffiti for a while.

Graffiti was one of the first things that stood out to me when looking through her page. She said she goes out to paint from time to time, usually returning to the same place around Waterloo, somewhere she feels able to express herself and be creative.

The first set came back from a day around Waterloo with @sosabefoha and a few friends. There wasn’t much more direction than that. They spent time around the tunnel, painted and photographed what was happening around them.

The result feels less like a shoot and more like a record of where they were and who they were with that day. That’s what made it interesting in the first place.
